PES Games – A History Of Pro Evolution Soccer Part 1

Pro Evolution Soccer is a football (soccer) video game with legions of fans around the world. PES games are produced for all major consoles including PS3, XBOX 360, Wii and PC and are distributed across all five continents making it a global powerhouse.

Pro Evolution Soccer games have now been around since 1996 when the uniquely titled Goal Storm started the Konami franchise. Along with the FIFA series from Electronic Arts (EA) the two games have gone head to head and dominated the football video game scene throughout this entire time. PES games have always focused on the playability and likeness to real football, whereas FIFA has predominantly been about being ‘official’, sacrificing game play for licensing and an arcade style of play.

The franchise has undergone several name changes in Europe and North America, at the moment the games are called PES followed by the next year to release year, so this year’s latest installment released this October, will be called PES 2013.

The initial name of Goal Storm was kept for just one year, before being changed to ISS Pro in 1997. Then it changed to ISS Pro 98 followed by ISS Pro Evolution in May 1999, making this the first time that ‘Evolution’ had appeared in the title. At this point in the history of the game, updates weren’t released at regular intervals and the first time I was introduced to the game was in 2001, with the arrival of ISS Pro Evolution 2.

Unlike in Europe and North America, in Japan – home of Konami, Pro Evo has retained the moniker ‘Winning Eleven’ since inception, with the prefix of ‘World Soccer’ being added after the first few years.

What made Pro Evo stand apart from other football games was the way the game played. The view of the action was side on and the ball could be kicked in any direction, unlike the FIFA games in which any directional shot would always fly towards goal, making the game seem staged.

Previous games which stayed true to football, such as Sensible Soccer, had top down views, which meant you played by either running up or down the television/monitor screen. Graphics were limited back in the 1990’s, but FIFA and Pro Evo started to change all of this – taking their respective games in different directions game play wise.

From the onset Pro Evolution Soccer never had naming rights for the players or teams, so early on in the franchise an editing option was created in the game. This allowed savvy gamers to edit the players and teams, replacing fake names with real ones. I remember spending hours recreating football strips and renaming all the players, until PES fan forums started a trend towards option files and max drives.

These saved option files were created by groups of fans and then uploaded via the internet to forum pages and download sites, so that all fans could quickly save and rename all the players in the game. Now they had better looking players, kits and real names, but it still didn’t compare to the official licenses of FIFA, but it didn’t have to, players simply wanted a resemblance, as it’s always been the game play that brings back fans year on year to Pro Evo.

This game play was honed over the following years as ISS Pro Evolution 2 became Pro Evolution Soccer in 2001. Game play was being tweaked all the time with AI (artificial intelligence) making the game smarter and the game speeds changed regularly, sometimes speeding up and then slowing down for the next release, as Konami tried to find the balance. Tackling became more of an art, instead of just button smashing and training modes were introduced to allow players to practice before doing things in real games.

Discussion on PES forums alluded to FIFA getting literally shirty with Konami on licensing issues, by forcing Konami to make the fake team names even more obscure (Manchester United were no longer ‘Man Red’, they were now ‘Aragon!’). This provided new challenges for the edit masters and fans always hoped that Konami would battle for the licenses for the next game – to date this still hasn’t happened taking into account PES 2013.

In Pro Evolution Soccer 2 commentators Peter Brackley (voice of Football Italia on Channel 4) and Trevor Brooking were introduced to add a new dimension in the realism stakes. Hearing somebody famous talk about your team during play sounded exciting in principle, but limitations in the technology meant that this could quickly become boring, monotone and often, irrelevant.

By comparison, music was introduced to the menu screen, with Queen belting out ‘We Will Rock you’ and ‘We Are The Champions’ amongst other artists and tracks. Music in the menus was a welcome addition as you could very often spend long periods of time negotiating these pages, especially if you were editing. This has been a feature Konami has maintained and improved over the years, right up until the present, often using small, unheard or unknown groups and giving them a platform to reach people through with their music.

In Part Two of PES games we’ll look at the continuing battle with FIFA, the movement to online and high definition gaming and how PES hopes to regain its football video game crown with PES 2013.

What Happened to Cristiano Ronaldo in This World Cup?

It’s the question everyone is asking not only in Portugal but throughout the world by football fans, now that CR7 and his teammates were sent packing after their defeat at the hands of Iberian rivals Spain in the round of 16 match on Tuesday in Cape Town.

With so much hype surrounding this dream Iberian derby, which featured FIFA’s second- and third-ranked sides in the world, Portugal ended their adventure without any bang as Carlos Queiroz and his squad were clearly beaten by a superior Spanish squad.

Spain won the game 1-0 with a goal by the inevitable David Villa at 63 minutes, which after some careful observation is clearly off-side, though not by much. Towards the end of the game, Portugal’s right back Ricardo Costa was unjustly red carded for apparently elbowing a Spanish defender.

Cristiano Ronaldo the Portugal captain and the world’s highest-paid footballer had probably his worst game ever. He appeared slow and tardier than most of his colleagues, failing miserably to get through Spain’s defense or even warm up his game on a chilly Cape winter’s night.

Ronaldo, who has lately been criticized for not being a good Portugal captain, drifted with indifference and frustration through most of the game, even if it can be rightly pointed out that that he got no help from a sluggish Portugal midfield with a serious lack of passing ability and creativity, which sorely misses players of the caliber of Luís Figo, Rui Costa and Deco when he was in form.

CR7 who mesmerized Manchester United and most recently Real Madrid with his magnificent skills, making him one of the most exciting players in the world of football, slipped back into his annoying habit of shooting from all angles and long distances at every opportunity instead of trying to link with his team-mates up front.

The only time we were able to see the true Cristiano was when he unleashed a typical powerful 30 meter free kick that caused some trouble for Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas in the first half. Apart from that he only touched the ball on 11 occasions in the second half.

South Africa has a large Portuguese community of about half a million, so the «Selecção das Quinas» had lots of support from tens of thousands of Portuguese fans in a full Cape Town Stadium. Even the non-Portuguese fans that came specifically so see their idol Cristiano Ronaldo, left the stadium highly disappointed with the performance of a player that was transferred for a staggering $132 million last summer when Spanish club Real Madrid acquired him from Manchester United.

Portuguese and foreign newspapers like the LA Times were very critical of Ronaldo’s performance against Spain saying that he strolled through the 90 minutes, probably didn’t need a shower, and couldn’t possibly have raised a sweat, given his invisibility and lack of effort.

Even the encounter of the Portuguese star with Nelson Mandela last week was not forgotten by the Los Angeles newspaper, saying that even the 91 year old Nelson Mandela would have moved more than Ronaldo who is 25, did.

More than likely Carlos Queiroz, who is extremely unpopular in Portugal, will be fired, since his tenure as coach was hardly successful. Cristiano Ronaldo is not the indicated player to be captain of the Portugal squad as he did nothing to lift his nation’s game and keep fighting to the end in the old-fashioned way.

C Ronaldo was also the only player not to sing the National Anthem of Portugal. As captain of the team, this action made him look very unpatriotic to his country and to the thousands of Portuguese fans inside the stadium and all over the world, who had so many expectations of him and of Portugal.

Spanish League Soccer – Coach Ziganda No More With Osasuna Team

The former footballer of 42 years old, Coach Jose Angel Ziganda, was dismissed by the Osasuna team of the Spanish League this past October 13th due to the results the team has been having at the beginning of this season.

The team is relegated to the 16th position of the 20 teams in the league, with only 4 points on the first six games of the season. The team had 4 tied games with Villarreal, Mallorca, Deportivo and Numancia, and had 2 losses against Valencia and Racing. With these results and the close the team ended to relegation last season, the franchise of Osasuna decided that it was time for coach Ziganda to leave the club.

The news of his release took Jose Ziganda and his assistant coach Andoni Goikoetxea by surprise, but they do accept that the results were not the best for the club. The fact that surprise them the most was that Ziganda became the first coach in 11 and half years to be fired by the club, because in the past, the franchise did not seemed to be focusing on the results. But now the expectations of the franchise are higher as they want to get out of the last positions of the table and be a more remarkable team in the league.

Ziganda expressed that he is leaving the club a little heartrending because he wanted more time to improve the team results and get the best performances of every player, but he accepts that he didn’t managed to win and that the team needed points. »We are very sad but we have to accept it, the reasons are obvious, we have not managed to win and the team needed a change. We wanted more time, because I think that the team has been capable of winning all the games, but the club want results,» expressed Coach Ziganda.

Jose Angel Ziganda was in charge of Osasuna for two seasons, replacing the Mexican coach Jose Aguirre. In his first season 2006-07, Ziganda took the team to the 14th place of the league and leaded them into the 2007 semifinals of the UEFA Cup, which they lost against Sevilla 2-1. However, for the 2007-08 season, Ziganda left Osasuna at the 17th place and very close to relegation. Although the club directives meant to keep him for another year, giving him the chance to turn things around, but the results obtained so far were not different.

The club has acknowledged the press that Coach Jose Antonio Camacho will replace Ziganda; he already signed a contract with Osasuna until June 2009. Camacho was the coach of the Spanish national team between 1998 and 2002, guiding the team to the quarter-finals of both Euro 2000 and World Cup2002. He also coached the teams Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, SL Benfica and was in charge of Real Madrid for two brief spells; 22 days in 1998 and four months in 2004. More recently, in 2008, Camacho was coaching Benfica again, but after some issues with the club, he decided to leave them. Now his expectations are placed on Osasuna, since he wants to take them out of the last positions of the table and convert them in a successful club in La Liga.

Sports Arbitrage Opportunity For Football and Soccer

In soccer, arbitrage opportunities are almost endless thanks to the global coverage of every major league in the world.

OddsExchange, an odds comparison site is very useful in finding arb opportunities, not only for soccer but other sports as well. There are so many bookmakers that offer soccer results and that is a very good thing for us. It ensures many opportunities to pick up easy profits.

It is important to note that in UK, many of the bookies will compile similar odds so you would not find many such opportunities between 2 UK bookies in an English football game.

However, there are different odds to be found with European bookmakers which will lead to arbitrage opportunities for you. In your journey to hunt down arb opportunities you should open accounts with as many online bookies across the world as possible.

One of the best soccer tips is to start looking at lower leagues first and work your way up instead of the other way around. Remember there are very few experts on lower league football so more price differences are likely to exist here and so more arbitrage opportunities can be found.

If possible, get news before the bookies. Remember that with soccer you will find that news can change odds dramatically. The good news is that some bookies are much less responsive than others in changing odds and this will result in arbitrage opportunities being created.

Arbitrage opportunities can be found in other soccer markets such as corners and total goals but these are harder to find and your main hunt should be focused on the results after 90 minutes area. In other words, keep it simple, anything beyond 90 minutes might just confuse you.

An important tip that applies to any sport is that you should always secure the best price first, usually the one that is out of line with what other bookies are offering, because this price may not last.

What Are the Qualities of a Football Team Goalkeeper?

A football team is made up of 11 players. The 11 players are made up of defenders, midfielders, wingers, strikers or forwards and just one goalkeeper.

There is no way a team can play a match without a goalkeeper. And there is no way a team can have more than one goalkeeper at the same time on a field of play.

A football team goalkeeper is the last man or woman standing. If a goalkeeper is beaten during a football match, a goal is as good as scored because he or she is the player responsible for keeping the goal in order to prevent the opponents from scoring goals.

Now, here are the qualities of a goalkeeper:

1. Clear Vision: A football team goalkeeper is supposed to have good eyes. He or she ought to be seeing very well. A goalkeeper that has any form of eye defect or problem is liable to make mistakes that can result in conceding cheap goals. A goalkeeper should be able to see the ball very well as it comes but he or she cannot see it if he or she lacks a clear vision.

2. Agility: A goalkeeper has to show a great level of sharpness, liveliness, dexterity, quickness, or alertness. In fact, this is one of the most important qualities of a goalkeeper. A goalkeeper should not be there at the goalpost in the first place if he or she is too dull to go for the ball as it comes to the goalmouth. This is why a goalkeeper should not be heavy, obese or overweight – he or she should be light so that he or she can dive without any difficulty.

3. Confidence: A goalkeeper should be as brave and bold as a lion or a cat. There is no way a goalkeeper can operate if he or she is full of tension and fear. In fact, a football team stands a chance of losing a match if the goalkeeper lacks the much needed confidence to keep the ball.

What Are The Disciplines Required For Soccer Betting?

Soccer betting, like all forms of sports betting and betting in general requires discipline, self-control and knowledge. Like anything else, there are soccer tips you can learn to give you an edge about the game and soccer betting tips you can use to make sure you bet intelligently. Without the proper soccer betting tips, you can find yourself making bets without much reward or that are likely to lose you your money.

Soccer tips to help you learn the game and make smart bets

o Learn the lineups of teams: By learning the lineups of various teams you will learn who the best players are, what position they play and how they match up with opponents.

o Follow the injury news and reports: One of the best soccer tips you can give to somebody is to follow injury reports. Just one major injury on a soccer team can swing the balance on who is more likely to win a game. Additionally, if you follow the lineups as well, you will know if the team has a good backup or not.

o Use past history as a guide: The more times that two teams play each other, the more likely a consistent history is to develop. When betting on soccer, consider the history of the teams before making your pick. Does the home team always win? Is there never a long three or four game consecutive winning streak by one team? Among these soccer tips, this is particularly valuable information that you can use to guide your decision process.

o See who has momentum: Sometimes the record of teams can be misleading. A team with 2 losses might have lost both games right before the upcoming game, and be on a losing streak. While a team with 4 losses could have lost those games in the beginning of the season and be on a winning streak, playing great soccer. Look inside the records for more information before placing your soccer bets.

Soccer betting tips you can use

o Don’t bet on teams or leagues you don’t know: Your knowledge is a resource and an important tool. One of the best soccer betting tips you can find is to never bet on things you do not know well.

o Never bet more money than you have: This is the foremost rule in making soccer bets, never be lured in to borrow and bet more money than you can afford to lose.

o Don’t bet emotionally: If you lose a bet, you may be inclined to bet on something you wouldn’t have otherwise to try to make up for it. Or, you may bet on your favorite team when there is not a good chance that they will win. As a rule, follow the soccer betting tip of betting with your brain, not with your heart.

Follow these soccer betting tips and guidelines and you will have a high rate of success, while minimizing your losses and enjoying the games even more.

English Premier League Preview – Chelsea and Arsenal

Chelsea have always been a top side challenging to get to the top four and this season will be no different. The biggest change that Chelsea has undergone is the change in their manager. Guus Hiddink who had an awesome time at Chelsea is replaced by the experienced AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti. The squad has not undergone many changes but it will be boosted with the addition of Russian midfielder Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow, English striker Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City and Middlesbrough keeper Ross Turnbull. Chelsea have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League with the likes of Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Anelka, Deco, Ballack, Cech and much more and their chance to win the title will entirely depend on team management, team chemistry and how well they handle pressure.

Arsenal, in my opinion, would have to fight to keep its place in the top four unlike the rest of the top four which are challenging to win the title. This is mainly because Arsenal did not put up a very good show last season according to their high standards and the strengthening of the Manchester City squad will challenge the Gunners for a place in the top four. Arsenal lost there top striker Adebayor and defender Tolo Toure to Manchester City. Even though they have a slightly weaker squad and not a very good performance last season, it will all depend on how Arsene Wenger handles his team. With top players like Fabregas, Gallas, Van Persie, Arshavin and the rest, Arsenal will surely have an outside chance for the title but its all in the managers hands.

Cristiano Ronaldo Proves Himself on the Big Stage

By scoring a brilliant goal against Liverpool which sent the Anfield team throttling to a humiliating defeat, Cristiano Ronaldo could have finally answered all those who wondered about his ability to shine on the highest level in soccer. Manchester United against Liverpool is a huge game. Before the match begun that had two of the biggest rivalries in English soccer, there had been a lot of focus on Ronaldo as many questioned if he could play as well against the Big Four compared to the likes of Bolton Wanderers or Reading. With only one goal in all games against the Big Four prior to meeting Liverpool, those were damning statistics and seemed to justify many critics of the young Portuguese player from the time he has spent in the English Premier League.

Yet the same critics have forgotten the goals and openings his teammates have collected in those games as a result of his involvement. Ronaldo receives a lot of attention from Manchester United’s biggest opponents, by virtue of his talent and what he has achieved. This results in tight marking of the player and a lack of time with the ball. But without the ball, he has been able to contribute to the wins carved out by the team as a whole.

Teammates like Wayne Rooney would find themselves with more space, and that often allowed them to create other opportunities for the rest to capitalize on. Rooney often found space against Liverpool and could have scored many goals, and this arose from situations where two or more men were marking Ronaldo. The end results often meant the less recognized players had freedom of the park and catastrophic goals which opponents conceded.

Cristiano Ronaldo does not just score goals, he also creates chances for other players and does this partly by distracting defenders while teammates find the time and space to wreck havoc on their rivals. There is no coincidence that players like Wes Brown and Michael Carrick have tasted the sweet sensation of bagging important goals in crucial matches. Ronaldo will always remain a threat, whether he flies down the wing at top speed, or seem to remain largely anonymous. Opponents would be well-advised not to ignore that.

Useful Soccer Predictions For Sports Betting

Soccer is an acclaimed game all over the world, so people want useful soccer predictions for sports betting because every soccer lover wants to gamble on his favorite team, having the best players. Betting on soccer can be done while watching the game in the stadium or on the internet on sports gambling sites online. Placing a bet can never be guaranteed but making a good start in the right direction is also very important for all time sports gamblers.

Soccer predictions can depend on some useful points which every gambler should keep in mind before placing a bet. Firstly, he should keep in mind the past records of every team, how have they played in recent games and years and which players are making the team because squads keep on taking in professional players from other teams by offering them a higher proportion. Players can have varying performance records in different places as well as under different weather conditions, so also calculate the performance of the team and its players to predict the ongoing soccer match. For all these calculations, search as much as you can because after all it is also about your money, which you cannot afford to lose due to lack of search before sports betting.

Another very informative thing to look at while betting is that the team on which you are gambling should have a recent record of winnings. If the team you are sports betting on has previously lost 2 to 3 games in a row, then you should reconsider your decision because nobody wants to be disappointed by losing his money on his favorite team. Such teams who have a recent record of winning have more gamblers to place a bet on so if you did not have time to search for the achieving teams, then you can see which team has the higher number of bets or larger amounts of bets placed on them. This is another soccer prediction which can be very helpful for gamblers to place bets on their all time favorite sports.

Another thing to keep in mind before sports betting is that, every gambler should first look at his bankroll and place bets keeping in limit of his balance sheet. If anybody bets more than he can afford to lose, he is making himself to be at risk that if in any circumstances he loses the bet, he’s doing himself a huge loss on purpose because there is no sport in the world which guarantees any affirmative gambling results for people to bet. Even soccer predictions are not certified agreements that you should place a bet giving in all your money and cash. So search well and be careful while betting on any game.

Betting Tips and Money Management in Soccer Betting

Soccer experts provide you with betting tips, the media publishes the latest news about the opponent teams and their key players, bookmakers support hundreds of betting methods. However, when you finally place your huge wager on a sure favorite, this is the time to start praying. Unfortunately, the world of soccer betting is quite unpredictable. There are thousands of factors playing against us. How can we cut our betting losses? The only way to do it is by using money management strategies. This article summarizes the methods and strategies of betting money management and provides a statistical comparison of their performance based on betting odds and match results of top European leagues.

The most common betting money management strategies in our days are: Martingale, Row of numbers and Kelly criterion. While the first two do not require any prior information, Kelly criterion requires the punter to know the probability of a win.

Definitions

Before presenting the performance analysis, a brief description of the above-mentioned strategies is necessary:

— Martingale strategy means doubling the stack after a loss and returning back to the starting stack after a win. This strategy is the most popular today and promises positive profits, but requires intensive money investments.

— Row of numbers means planning a series of constant profits. Given betting odds, the punter calculates each stake in a way that will allow him to make the planned profit. In case he loses, he should increase the next stack in such a way the profit will return both the money already lost and the planned profits for the lost games. This strategy is less aggressive than Martingale but still dangerous.

— Kelly criterion: mathematically proven to be the best strategy in the long run. However, it requires knowing the probability of a win. The stacks are calculated in proportion of the size of your funds and according to the relation between the probability of a win and the betting odds. When probability and odds are high, a high stack will be placed and vice versa.

Data and Methods

In order to evaluate the performance of each strategy, we analyzed the betting odds set by bookmakers for the top European leagues. Imagine that bookmakers are punters who place a stake on a favorite with minimal betting odds. One can easily estimate the probability of a win by dividing the average number of home/draw/away outcomes by the total number of games in a season.

The betting odds and results are taken from the four European top leagues playing in the 2008/2009 season: English Premier, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga 1 and Spanish Primera Division.

Summary

— The results show that Kelly criterion is the best money management strategy of the three with an average profit of +5% compared to +1% (Row) and +1.2% (Martingale).

— The most profitable was the French Ligue 1 with a betting profit of +22% (Kelly), +9% (Row) and +10% (Martingale).

— The least profitable was the English Premier League with a betting loses of -10% (Kelly) ), -9% (Row) and -8% (Martingale).
